Electrocauterization Has Fewer Side Effects, Better Efficacy, Than Topical Treatments for Anal Lesions

When it comes to treating precancerous anal lesions, electrocauterization is both more effective and, somewhat surprisingly, better tolerated than repeated topical applications of either Aldara (imiquimod) or Efudex (fluorouracil), according to data presented Thursday, March 8, at the 19th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in Seattle.

HPV pushes oral cancer cases past 6,000 a year

The number of oral cancer cases diagnosed each year in the UK has risen above 6,000 for the first time, new figures from Cancer Research UK show today. Experts believe that infections with high-risk strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) may be a key reason for the jump in cases of oral cancer.

Changes to first-line therapy for gonorrhea in Canada

The PHAC's research has revealed that in the past decade strains of gonorrhea in Canada have evolved and are losing their susceptibility to cefixime and ceftriaxone.
